This is a new series called 'I can't live without:'. As I start another spending hiatus and continue to try to pare down the possessions that I already have, it has made me think harder about the things I couldn't live without, both essentials and luxuries.
My Bodum Chambord 8-cup coffee press will stay. Although we love (I really mean love...) our Cusinart Grind-N-Brew, there is nothing like making and enjoying French-pressed coffee on a Saturday morning. To me, it is like slow coffee, kind of like slow food.
Is there something in your own kitchen that you could not live without?
Mmmmmm...I love my french press. I like that it doesn't make any noise, so it keeps the morning perfectly peaceful.

I use my french press every morning when I work from home. J doesn't drink coffee so it seems silly to bring out the big guns for just me. I love the taste so much more too.
Other then that, I would have to say that my food processor is something I would miss. I don't use it all the time, but it is essential for certain tasks like bread crumbs, creamy soup, salsa, pesto and sliced potatoes.

I could live without three sets of chef's knives. I could live without three measuring cups. I could not live without the two le creuset pots and my kitchenaide mixer. Oh, and my simple white plates. But I'm with you on the french press. There are never too many ways to make coffee!

Last year Carl go me a Cuisinart food processor. I LOVE it. Even though I don't use it that often, that will never leave the house.

Coffee maker with auto-timer. There is no way I'd be making it to work if the coffee wasn't already DONE and HOT at 0430! : )

We use a French press for our coffee every morning. Unfortunately, we seem to break the glass carafe once a year, which necessitates purchasing a new one.
In addition to the French press, the microplaner, stick blender, a favorite knife, and a cast iron skillet make up my 'can't live without' kitchen list.

Every morning I too commune with my french press, I love that you posted this, and love what you are doing with your spending hiatus - great reading! It makes me think a lot about what I really need, and what I just want. Most of the "just wants" end up in a closet or stuffed in the garage... good things to think more about...
